About The Big C

cropped-bigc-facebook-cover.jpgFollowing three sell-out Fringe shows 2011-13, raising over £50,000 for cancer charities, the Big Comedy Gala is back; and this year the organisers are launching the Big Cabaret Gala, to be hosted by cabaret siren Lili la Scala.

The Big Cabaret Gala will take place at the EICC on the afternoon of Friday the 28th August, with the Big Comedy Gala on the same stage that evening (details to follow). Proceeds from both shows go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Celebrated cabaret hostess and vintage songstress Lili la Scala already has a few shows-stopping collaborations planned for the afternoon, with some very special guests joining her on stage. A limited number of Cabaret Gala tickets are on sale now, with the majority of tickets being offered to high school students as incentives for their own fundraising efforts.

Lili, also known as ‘The Songbird of Trafalgar Square’, is a renowned cabaret and burlesque hostess, having fronted shows all over the UK, including High Tease, The Burlesque Show, Proud Cabaret, The Black Cat Cabaret, AFVS and many more. She has also been in much demand the world over for her stylish solo shows.

Lili says: “I’m delighted to be working with the Big C to bring you this inaugural Cabaret Gala. Edinburgh in August is a veritable smorgasbord of talent and exciting shows. The Cabaret Gala, along with its comedy cousin, aims to bring you the best in cabaret and comedy that the Edinburgh festivals have to offer. Better still, it’s supporting a superb charity. Everyone has a Macmillan story, and I’m very excited to do my bit to help raise funds and awareness for them.”

The Big C was set up in 2010, after the death of Julie Woods, as a legacy organisation devoted to raising funds for cancer charities.

In addition to the event, The Big C is a voluntary organisation that raises money for charities providing support for those affected by cancer. The organisation was launched in 2010 by Edinburgh residents and arts professionals, Mhari Hetherington and Barry Church-Woods, who both have personal experience of the fantastic work carried out by Macmillan Cancer Support.
